The Alberta Thoroughbred Aftercare Society (ATAS) is a registered Canadian charity that provides compassionate aftercare, rehabilitation, retirement, rehoming and sanctuary for Thoroughbreds that have served the Racing Industry in Alberta. Our goal is to ensure every horse in our care has the opportunity for a safe, supported and fulfilling life beyond the racetrack.
We support retired Thoroughbred racehorses through every step of their transition from racing to their next chapter.
Horses accepted into the ATAS program are individually assessed, provided with veterinary care and rehabilitation when needed, and given the time, retraining and support appropriate to each horse.
When they are ready, we work carefully toward a safe, suitable long-term home or second career, with the horse’s welfare guiding every decision.
