Application & Fee
Complete the ATAS Adoption Application and submit the $20 non-refundable application fee by e-transfer to abtbaftercare@gmail.com. Applications will not be reviewed until both the completed application and fee have been received.
Adopt an ATAS Thoroughbred:
ATAS places retired Thoroughbreds with adopters who are suited to the individual horse.
Every horse comes to ATAS with a different history, temperament, level of training, physical condition and potential future use. Our responsibility is to assess the horse, assess the applicant and determine whether the proposed placement is appropriate for both.
Adoptions are not first-come, first-served, and submitting an application does not reserve a particular horse. Approval is based on the suitability of the applicant, the proposed facility and the match with the individual horse.

Interview & References
ATAS will speak with the applicant about their horse experience, intended use and care arrangements. References must be provided directly to ATAS by the person giving the reference for the potential Adopter.

Facility & Horse Match
ATAS assesses the location where the horse will live and considers whether the applicant, facility and intended use are suitable for the individual horse. If a correctable issue is identified, ATAS may require it to be addressed before the application proceeds.

Approval & Placement
Once the applicant and horse are approved as a match, the ATAS Adoption Agreement must be completed and all placement requirements satisfied before the horse leaves ATAS care. ATAS continues to follow the horse after placement.
